Tried to see if the pto would work because the grapple had ahold of the stump. PTO wouldn't turn at all. Also as soon as the tractor is started there is a very loud whine/somewhat of a grinding directly below the clutch and brake pedals. Got the tractor to move enough to get away from the stump and backed the tractor up to the yard. Clutch seemed to hold for that long. I messed with the pto while I was moving and - no go. When I shut off the pto lever then the T/A would work. I am thinking it is the pump and clutch pack for the pto to start with. Steering seemed to be O.K. Any other ideas? Thanks, Dan
Did the TA and steering work when you were hearing very loud whine/somewhat of a grinding noise? If not, the splines for the clutch cover hub and the IPTO gear have worn out. The gear slipping in the hub is the noise that you hear. When you lose the drive for the PTO you also lose the hydraulics. The sprague clutch is also worn out in the TA. When you lose the hydraulics you no longer have the use of the high side of the TA and you also lose the hydraulic back up of the low side so you have only the drive through the sprague. When you turn off the PTO you lessened the load enough on the PTO drive train that splines held enough to drive the hydraulics.
