In my experience both one piece and two piece rims have holes for the first set of weights. Use the largest bolts that will fit the holes. You will not need hardened bolts if you keep them tight.
I just paid $150 for a set of cub weights and they each weigh 150lbs.
300lbs on the rear of your cub will make a big difference EXCEPT on frozen ground. The only thing to help you there is chains. Been stuck many times trying to back out of a push on frozen ground.
