It might not be the same; when i bought my M it had been converted to a 12v. it ran well but after a period of time would stop. The batterry would be dead and i'd have to recharge it to get it going. One day I simply did not put the hood back on and the tractor ran all day.
I noticed that the alternator was touching the hood. Hood on -- battery would die and tractor quit. Hood off it runs like a top. Clearly when the hood touched the alternator it caused the alternator to fail. No one here at YT could agree/explain why the hood touching the alternator would do this -- but it did.
Now as for the alternator touching the valve cover . . .
