When I converted my 1951 H to 12V using the Hitachi 14231 alternator I wired it using Bob Melville's wiring diagrams which are available on this site. I used the three wires as it was intended to be wired on it's automotive application. The difference on my alternator was the terminal labels. The L is the same as 1 on Bob's diagram and the S is the same as 2 and the Bat is the same for both. It was simple to wire that way and I believe I've seens other posts here on the forum from folks who wired it as a one wire as well. If that is the route you want to go then check the archives for that information. This alternator makes a nice and simple conversion on a H which fits nicely and still has adjustment room between the valve cover and hood. Hope this helps, Hal.
