Hey p - I just fixed my father in law's '65 Cub Cadet the other nite - had the same problem. Here's what to do: 1 - Start with a fully charged battery. 2 - Stick an accurate voltmeter across the battery terminals. It should read about 12.6 volts. 3 - Start the motor and run at about 1/2 throttle. If the generator and regulator are working right, the voltmeter should read 14.2 to 14.6 volts. 4 - If the meter still reads 12.6, take off the regulator cover and push the upper (cutout) relay closed. If the voltage jumps up to 14.2 - 14.6, the cutout is NG - replace the regulator. If the voltage does not increase, the generator is not working. 5 - If the meter reads somewhere BETWEEN 12.6 and 14.2, the voltage regulator (lower relay in teh regulator) needs adjusting. Gently bend the spring hanger on the relay to stretch the spring while watching the voltmeter. When you get it to about 14.2 volts, stop and replace the cover. 6 - If the above doesn't work, best to simply replace the regulator. I've found they're only good for 2 or 3 seasons - I guess the heat and vibration is hard on them. Good luck!!

Since this can be extremely difficult, you may want to fabricate the item or purchase a modern replacement temporarily, but eventually, you s
