I don't know where this information is coming from; all of the 9 series start with both levers up. I think that you will notice the compression difference if you try and hand crank it on gas and then on diesel. The only thing I can add to the previous posts is once you get it running use the choke to get it running even on all 4 rather than going for top RPM. The first place I look if you can't get it to run on gas is the carb swithover lever in behind the carb. Make sure that it clicks into place when switched to gas.
