You must keep in mind that a magneto does indeed have a distributor, it needs this to distribute the spark to the correct cyl at the correct time. The other type commenly referred to as a distriutor is in fact a battery ign unit and also has a distributor. The battery ign unit has a variable speed automatic advance whereas a magneto has an impulse induced spark lag for starting and then it is full advance at all running speeds. This is less deseriable for smooth effecient operation at speeds below full throttle. Also, the battery ign units come in many differet advances,from 40 degrees to zero degrees depending on engine designed for. Don't know your tractor model but a 30 or 40 degree automatic advance working properly would most likely be what you need.
