I think you mean TA, as in Torque Amplifier.
If not, what is a T/C? A 986 doesn't have a torque converter, and it certainly isn't a truck camper. Those are the only two uses for the acronym T/C that I know of.
Your description of the problem is very confusing, but from what I can gather, it sounds like it might be the classic signs of a failing TA.
This is way more involved than changing a clutch on a pickup truck. It requires splitting the tractor in two places, and handling the very heavy center section. You may need to remove the cab too. It's really something that requires a shop with a high roof and a gantry crane.
$6000 - $8000 seems a little steep, but that may also include some maintenance items that really should be replaced "while you're in there." That's the main clutch, the IPTO gear, and probably a new MCV valve. All this stuff should be replaced because it will be even more expensive down the line to tear the tractor apart again.
Shop around for the work. There might be a semi-retired IH mechanic with his own shop in your area, or someone else who does work like this on the side for a lot less than the dealer is charging.

No. I am just happy to have their friendship. At least the word "farmer" is in my title. But what is the attraction? How can I explain the sensation and exhilaration I feel when I turn the key and hear the engine come to life (most
