Nebraska Cowman said: (quoted from post at 09:10:16 01/20/10) I'd use any multi-purpose hydraulic oil in the hydraulic pump. Dextron would be a good choice if you have no tractor oil supplier. You can get that at Wal-mart. The books recommend non-detergent motor oil for the hydraulic (Lift-All) pump. But they did not have the oils available then that we have today. In fact, I have several pints of additive that was sold by IH to try to upgrade the motor oil to a spec nearer hydraulic fluid. So even then they knew that non-detergent motor oil was not completely adequate for the hydraulic system.
I use hydraulic fluid as well. NB Cowman is a genius. I have watched him and the crew work at RPRU '09.
My other thought thats makes 30 SAE look pretty foolish is the fact that EVERY implement you hook to will be running hydraulic fluid. Of course the exception would be if you manually purged all of them and refilled with 30 SAE, but that is just nuts. The tractor swaps out fluid with the implement when it is running so all of your 30 SAE will be diluted with hydraulic fluid.
