It's a 40 year old tractor. Like any 40 year old tractor that's still in regular use, there simply aren't any weak points.
What you will find is that literally ANYTHING on the tractor could be wore out. After all, it is 40 years old.
Drive it. Try it in all the gears. Feel the shifter for loose sloppy action. Try the TA under a load if you can, even if it's just the brakes. Look for leaks.
It can all be fixed, all you need is money. You need to figure out how much money you'd be willing to spend to fix the broken stuff.
Of course you can never fully test out the tractor, and anything could break on you 5 minutes after you get it home. You need to figure if it's worth taking the chance. Assume that there's something wrong with the tractor. Otherwise why would the owner be selling it?
