Could be a timing gear, could also be a rod bearing etc. One way to tell if it is a rod bearing is pull the plug wire on the suspected cylinder. Won't knock nearly as bad if you find the culprit this way. Could also be a valvetrain issue or maybe even the timing is too advanced and what you are hearing is knock.
