I never considered working on the hydros that complicated. You do need a good understanding of how they work and the repair manual. There are several special tools you will need to do the job correctly and a clean place to work on them is important.
Parts are expensive so a lot of tractors have been retired rather than repaired when the hydro fails. That in turn leads to less mechanics with much experience on them.
