12v Gen and lights

My 400 was converted to a 12v altenator system and now that I'm restoring it I want to put a gen. on it. I know that IH made gen. for the diesel models, but can anyone tell me how I can tell if my lights and gen. I bought are 12v by markings. I bought the gen. from somebody, it needs rebuilt, and they said it was a 12v, but I want to make sure. Thanks for any and all help. Jon.
