I don't know if your tractor has a hydaulic oil cooler or not, but if it does it would also have a cooler bypass valve. That valve is used to bypass the oil cooler when the oil is too cold and thick to move through the cooler. The fluid then moves directly to the steering unit. Sound like maybe your fluid is not making it to the unit until it warms abit. I'm just speaking from working on a 504, again I don't know if your tractor has these parts.
