Hi Neil, I don't have book for D-179 but have book for the 4cyl version D-239. The cyl head bolts are to be tightened in 3 steps, 30 ft-lbs, then 60 ft-lbs, then 90 ft-lbs. There is a bolt tightening squence. Both exhaust and intake valves are set to 0.012 inches. Flywheel retaining cap screws 110 ft-lbs. The main bearings have different settings depending on the type of cap screw all with lubed threads, tighten in 3 steps, 30 ft-lbs, then 60 ft-lbs, then final step as below: Necked down bolts marked: 10.9K set 80 ft-lbs, 12.9K set 100 ft-lbs. Pitch diameter bolts marked: 10.9K set 105 ft-lbs, 12.9K set 141 ft-lbs.
Necked down bolts have a shank diameter of 0.410 inches. Pitch diameter bolts have a shank diameter of 0.500 inches.
