they make more power, but have more problems, fuel milage isnt as good, and the engines have a shorter time between overhauls, there is more to consider than just hp the 12v's just sit in there and run,they usually need a waterpump and starter in the mid hundred thousands and thats about it if they get reasonable mantenence, they;ll pull the same loads as the 24v, slower, but they'll get there
