Mich, A D246 engine should fit with out any problem.I used D239 because it was a very good deal.As far as the driveline I don't think there is much difference between this 544 and a hydro 70.For me I use it in a big v-rake and sometimes in my 12ft. disbine. For my tillage work I have a restored case 1030,but this is the wrong forum to show it. Also have a J.D.4430 which is nice.I'm not picky if you take care them they will last.
