As Nebraska Kirk posted, the most common failure is the rollers getting flat spots. The only time these wear is when the TA is in the direct (forward) position or allowed to over run in the TA position. If the TA is not used regularly the rollers are not forced to rotate as they do when they lock up. Never using the TA can cause it to fail faster than if it is used regularly.
