Kerosene is pretty much the same thing as # 1 diesel fuel. It's thinner then #2 diesel that is used as engine fuel, has a lower boiling point, has less energy, and less lube.
Some winter-blends of farm-diesel are 1/2 kerosene in some areas. Also, JP8 military fuel is pretty close to kerosene.
You will get poorer fuel efficiency with kerosene and it will shorten the life of the fuel-injection pump if you use it all the time.
There are six classes of fuel-oil, 1 to 6 - but 1 and 2 are the only types usually seen at the consumer level. #3 used to be a lot more common and was sold as cheap "distillate" tractor fuel.
