If it is a 6v (as I assume it is) the battery should be placed in it with positive ground. I also assume it discharged as soon as you hooked up the battery, and before starting it. There is a high current load on the system. There are three places it could go. One is to the charging system. A stuck cutout relay in the regulator, or a shorted wire would do it. The second is to the ignition. That would only happen if the switch were on? or the wire from the Amp meter to the switch is shorted to ground. The third is in the light system and that is not it unless the lights are on. I would start with disconnecting the VR/cutout and seeing if it still does it. The next thing would be to trace the wires from the Amp meter to make sure they are not rubbing the frame. Jim
