i'm not sure why they modified it, it was that way when the guy i bought it from got it. from the looks of the welds and such it's been this way for quite awhile. thanks for the idea of cutting down a M tank, i'll have to look into that. first i need to repair the float in the carb as it's got a hair crack in it and it's filling up with gas. then i have to get the shifter cut down a bit more and angled correctly as it's right in the way of the clutch pedal when in 1st and reverse.
