ok sounds like the little dowel that goes in the shift rail may have pulled out so you well have to take off top cover. now there is a specal tool that pushes out the revers shafter as you pull the top cover off if you dont have one borrow one. if it come loose then it drop the revers shifter out line whitch then you have to take off side plate on tran, whitch if you have both fuel tanks is a pain. second before raising the top cover take tractor out of park and place a 1/2 inch nut under the park powel so you can pull top off. a i. t. manual would be also a good idea. then when you reinstall it there a detent spring that well fall off that holds the to shirt arms in detent . a specal tool for that also. but what i do is drill a 5/16 inch hole and tap it for 3/8 bolt.. there is a knot,, raised spot on top cover between the to manure lever place the bolt in far enough to hold the two lever back keeping the spring tight once top cover is installed back out bolt fill whole with silcone. and by the way if you never done one i would get someone to do it they are not easy even though i have done probly a 100 or so of them. you have the worest done removing the seat good luck
