Ash Grove, IN. June 3rd, 1947. 3 brand new 'Monon' F-3A diesel locomotives collided head - on with 3 other brand new F-3A's; also 'Monon' north of Lafayette, IN. One train hauling coal, & the other freight. I assume the picture is probalby the northbound train out of Louisville, & hauling 'Louisville M's'. Northbound train was moving at 40mph, SB at 35mph. The northbound train ASSUMED!!! the southbound cleared the main track, & was off to the side. Not so! The SB train failed to read 3 different warning lights, & the only survivor said he as they rounded a curve they witnessed an increasingly glaring headlight! If You want more pictures go to 'Bygone places of the Monon' click onto the 'First subdivision;, & scroll down to 'Ash Grove'
Yup, ya better be reading those warning lights! Whether you're driving a tractor, vehicle, operating a train or flying, have a safe and enjoyable Easter holiday weekend.
