Kenneth, 10w30 will be ok. I use straight 30W in mine, but multi-grade oils will work just fine. Like Big Fred says, check the oil regularly and change it frequently for a while. There may be years of sludge built up inside the engine. I suspect the shutting down problem is a restriction in the fuel line between the tank and carb. The tank probably has some loose rust inside that is blocking the inlet to the sediment bowl (the glass thing you cleaned out). Get a gas can and remove the fuel line at the carb. There should be a stream of gas the size of the inside of the tube coming out in a steady flow. If not, clean everything out, working back toward the tank. You may find the blockage is at the junction of the sediment bowl and tank. Try to remove the sediment bowl carefully, they are sometimes corroded and break off during removal. If it breaks off, it can be replaced. They are a little pricey, but the local Case/IH dealer can get you one. There is a screen or filter in the inlet to the sediment bowl that will clog with the rust flakes. If this is the problem, drain the tank and clean out the rust as best you can. Then add a length of "swing" chain, the kind used for kids swings. Fill the tank about 1/4 full with water and slosh it around for a good long while. Others have tied the tank to a tractor rear wheel and jacked it up, started the tractor, put it in gear and let it run for a couple of hours. Others have used a cement mixer (the homeowner kind, not the truck) to roll the tank around. After the chain has polished the inside of the tank, dump it out, flush with water, then add some denatured alcohol to the tank to absorb the remaining water. After drying, coat the inside with phosphoric acid solution. This changes the rust back into metal. Then rinse again and seal with tank sealer (available from motorcycle shops).Reassemble and work without problems for years to come. Sorry this is so long, but it's easier to do than to write. Phil
