Sledge hammer may work, but I think I would take a different route. Take the small plug out on the mcv valve right below the oil cooler lines going to the front, or the plug with a 5/8th head on it right below the transmission oil pressure sending unit. Start it up and rev it up a bit, caution, if it primes oil will come shooting out really fast. Be prepared to shut off quick. If that doesn't work, well, that extra 5 gals may well do the trick. I have also squirted oil in that plug and blew it back in some to get it back into the pump. Or drive the nose down into a ditch. Ideally of course this problem should not happen with a good pump and sealed system.
