Kevin in MI said: (quoted from post at 07:31:59 04/13/10) Before I go and tear this ole H apart, can someone confirm that the bull pinion /brake shaft is NOT suppose to have excessive play (grab a hold of the brake drum and move it freely up, down, left, or right)? The weird part is that when I pushed it ahead a few feet to get the garage closed up, the excess play disappeared. Would this be because the ball bearings aligned themselves in the cage such that they took up the movement? Just trying to avoid the doing something I don't need (still got a sick feeling).
Thanks for the info. Kevin
There SHOULD be a very minimal amount of play, but you would need a dial indicator to detect it.
