"GSS-1007 Engine", which is the IH Blue Ribbon Manual, is WRONG! It states that ALL timing marks are on the FRONT of the gears with the exception being the governor gear which is on the back side. True the governor gear has a single punchmark on the back. The idler gear which drives it has two punch marks on the front used to time with the crank gear. HOWEVER the idler gear DOES have a single punch mark of the BACK side also that aligns with the mark on the governor gear. Funny thing is the manual also shows how to chalk the idler gear for easy reference when attempting to lign the governor gear up from the mag side. This has truly been a learning experience. After aligning the gears and reinstalling the governor housing, and properly indexing the new mag everything ligned up perfect. After rotating to TDC again I rotated the mag away from the eninge block slowly and the impulse coupling clicked as it should. Thanks for your input it was a big help. Hopefully others will read this and learn form my experience. I will add that all of these timing marks are very faint impression, not the deep punch marks I expected. I had to do alot of cleaning to remove alot of oil build up to find them.
