The 12 series tractors differed from all other IH tractors (after the introduction of the 15-30 in 1921)in that the shafts on the gear-box are arranged across the tractor rather than along the tractor. The gear layout is provided by a decal usually attached to the rear of the fuel tank and not by a cast in pattern on the gear-box.
