Lets assume the battery is New, and charged. Use a volt meter to check if there is voltage at the posts of the battery (not the wire terminals, the actual posts on the battery) if volts, now check volts from Pos terminal to negative cable end. If no volts, the negative cable end (at the battery) is not clean enough to conduct electricity from the post. If volts, check from the Neg post to the positive cable end. If no volts the pos cable end is corroded. With voltage in the wires leading from the battery, we now check by using a different method. Turn the lights on. (Assumes no lights come on) At the ground strap to frame/engine, test voltage from wire end to chassis. (tests the ground) If voltage is found clean that terminal. (no volts should be found) Now test from ground to the connector at the solenoid where the other battery lead is connected. Voltage Good no voltage, bad wire. Now there should be a second wire connectred to that post. Make sure it has power, if not clean the stud and terminals on it. Follow that wire making sure there is voltage at each connection. Use the diagram, and follow the power to the key, lights , and charging system. You will find it. Jim

On our first cosmetic restoration, not having a manual, we carefully marked the wires, taped the magneto in the position it came off, and were careful not to turn the engine over while we had these components off. We thought we could get by with this since the engine ran perfectly and would not need any internal work. After the cleanup and painting was done, we began reassembly and finally came to t
