I always start mine about 2/3 throttle without the choke. After it pops off, if it tries to stutter and cough, then and only then do I give it a small amout of choke just to clean it up.
If I try to start 'em using the choke initially, they won't even start unless it is down around zero or below.

Yes, that is exactly the same procedure I use. During EXTREME cold weather, I may have to pull the choke to get it to fire, but I only pull the choke AFTER attempting to start without it.
