We used to take the tips off of one or two and force them into the hollow back end of a lead, .22 caliber pellet. Then wedge the end of the stick in behind the tips, cut the stick off flush with the back of the pellet, then put it in the pellet rifle and shoot it at something hard. Makes a nice "pop" upon impact.
