A good inferred thermometer can be bought for $60 to $90 from most auto parts stores and makes an excellent diagnostic tool for cooling issues. Don't count on your tractor guage to read correctly. Measure the coolant temp at regulator and top of tank (should be similar) and then measure at bottom radiator return (should be 30 to 40% cooler than inlet). If little difference in temperature, the radiator may be plugged, the waterpump is not moving the coolant, or the thermostat may be stuck closed. I have an H that had a waterpump failure. The the shaft broke loose from the impeller, then the shaft moved forward until disconnecting from the drive pins.
