If I recall, the rod caps only go on one direction. I don't think you can install it backwards. So far I am stumped. You might want to pull the bottom of the 3 main bearing caps while you are at it. You have to remove a plate that supports the rear of the oil pan to get to the rear main bearing. When you reinstall the main caps, torque to 75 foot pounds. You don't need to rewire the main cap nuts. My only thought, which ain't much, is possibly this engine has had the rings replaced with possibly oversize rings? I don't see how it would run that long if that was the case though. Another thought is that the rod bearings are .010 oversize but the rod journals are standard size. I think you might need to mike those rod journals. The outside of the bearings might have a mark if they are oversize. Again I wouldn't think it would run very long if they were oversize though. Report back and see if we can figure this puppy out.
