i dont see anything wrong with 15-40, as thats what i use. todays oils are much improved over the old straight grade from 50-60 yrs ago. its even hard to buy straight grade oil in places.i use the same oil in the pump also, straight grade is good too for the pump. but as long as the engine oil is diesel recomended.probably be a debate coming over oil.maybe an oil expert can explain differences.
