The exact same thing happened to me once - except I was on a 1945 M and it was the 4th of July Rodeo Parade in Arcadia, Florida. Additionally, I had been to the Eagles, Elks and Moose clubs (on my tractor) for some refreshments before the parade.
Rather than crash the float in front of me, I turned 'er into the front window of 'ol lady Tisdale's Shop For Ladies. I remember it was a horrendous crash.
The next day I learned I had been photographed by The Arcadian (the local newspaper) with some women's dainties still resting on top of my head. The M was unharmed, although the top 1/3 of the steering wheel was bent rearward, probably by the trip through the front window of Miz' Tisdale's store. Truthfully.,....., I don't know exactly what happened. I never did find my Stetson hat to this day.
That was 1985. However, my clutch has never done that since. (Neither have I.)
