I've been fixing stuff ever since I can remember. Started out fetching tools for Dad when I was a tyke. Spent a lot of time taking stuff apart just to see how it works. I've found that after awhile of messing w/ the mechanical stuff that you'll find it only goes together one way. That is, after a few adventures with the tractor or whatever, you'll "just know" what needs done, or how to figure out where to start, you'll be able to recognize what's worn out or not right. The important thing is to get good advice, here on the forums, or from people you know. The best investment right now is getting the manuals. For Farmalls you need to get the Operator's Manual, Service Manual and the Parts Manual. It takes all three to get the whole picture. It cost about $90 for my M, but it's the most important "parts" you'll buy. And read everything The Red, Bob M, Les Repair, Phil Auten post, and quite a few others I can't remember right now. You might not need that answer now, but that stuff will stick back there in your head and you'll have a better start when you do need to know. Someone once said that the only dumb question is the one you don't ask! BTW, Jeff, 30 ain't even close to "Old Timer". I'm 47 and I'm still a kid! Shutting up now.

A copse of wildbreaking silver birch and oak trees surround the top si
