I6 was the industrial version of a W6, which was a standard-tread "wheatland" style tractor. They used the same engine as the M but are a whole different tractor. No I6 or W6's had a narrow front end, so that rules out that possibility.
The yellow paint could either be a primer showing through or it could have been painted that way new if ordered by a highway or road department or some other type of outfit. I've seen yellow M's before, most were from right after the WWII era, I think I remember reading that IH used a different paint around then that faded to yellow.
