In theory, the 100 PIV 3 Amp diode should be more than adequate.
Since there can be some nasty voltage spikes in the primary ignition circuit (where the diode gets it's power) from the coil when the ignition is switched off, I use 1000PIV diodes and have never had one fail. I HAVE seen an occasional failure with low PIV diodes.
