It will fit in the large frame or small frame tractors, depending on which front and rear mountings you put on the engine.
If you put the front and rear plates off a D312 from a 666 on the engine, it will fit in a 460, 656, 666 or 686 (small frame).
If you put the front plate off a D312 from a 666 on the engine, and the rear plate from a 766 or early 886, it will fit in the 06 and 56 series large frame tractors.
If you put the front and rear plates off a D360 from a 766 or early 886 on the engine, it will fit in 66, 86 and 3x88 series large frame tractors.
There are other issues such as hood fit and radiator hookup, to mention a few, to deal with.

Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
