I looked further into my parts catalog after seeing the replies by Ken and Zach to see where the transmission components changed to accept the splined PTO shaft. The transmission countershaft did change at s/n 45614 with splines on the back end which would accept the 2nd and 3rd styles of PTO's as noted by Zach. I don't know if anything else might be involved in putting the 2nd style in a tractor of the third family or not but it doesn't appear that the connection inside the transmission would matter. The back end of the last style PTO is a lot different then the first two and don't know if anything there would be an issue or not but doesn't appear to be. The rear case maintained the same part number throughout the total H production run so the changes if any would be in the components within the case. Thanks for the replies as we all learn by going through these exercises and I would certainly be lost without my part catalogs, Hal.
