Over 20,000 hours on a 656 that has been worked long and hard its entire life - its had two overhauls and I seriously doubt its ever had a whiff of anything over 87 octane. It did everything from running the baler to the grinders to pulling the planter. Our Hs never got worked very hard (as in pull a plow) but they all ran 87 octane also - with some serious hours racked up on them too.
If your 706 shot craps after 10 minutes on a grinder I seriously doubt it was the fuel. Many poor mechanics blame fuel (and oil and operators) for their error in timing set up or failure to correctly torque heads etc.... Its much easier to blame others for mistakes that could cost them serious money for a botched overhaul.
Seriously, do you think the mechanic is going to say "I owe you a free overhaul" or "You put the wrong gas in the tractor"?
