I have an IH 544 and I am very happy with this tractor for my acreage. I am assuming you have this problem solved but in case you dont - have you checked the fuel solenoid shutoff?? It could very well be that the pin is blocking the fuel from the mainjet - it looks like it is electrically disconnected in your pics which is fine - but you have to make sure the fuel isnt shutoff. Your problem sounds like it might be with that solenoid. Don't you just love how they engineered the sediment bowl exactly above the starter on this model..... I feel lucky i haven't burned myself up yet. My tractor stays outside most of the time unfortunately. I just put Red-Coat in the fuel tank and even in the fuel line and carb to prevent the rust from building up. Works like a charm. This tractor purrs like a kitten with everything set up on it. I recently replaced my solenoid - when it failed I disconnected it a few years ago and blocked the shutoff pin open - most ppl end up doing this. But when I went to drain the bowl recently for the application of the redcoat - the solenoid assembly broke on me. The new solenoid has infant mortality - idk if I will bother replacing it.....
But that is exactly how your tractor will behave if this fuel shutoff solenoid isnt working. It will just act like it isnt getting fuel - it will run off of starting fluid or gas in the intake. Thats how I figured out the new solenoid wasnt working.... Oooooh - it acts like its not getting gas - so i checked the solenoid and sure enough - brand new out of the box - it wont open with electrical signal..... Wired it open and now - runs perfect.
