Gonna take the Red's advice one step further: Remove the float and listen while you shake it. If you hear ANY sloshing inside, replace it with a new one. Reason is if gas gets inside the float, it won't float as high in the bowl as it should - even though it may still float free in a can of gas. The waterlogged float will cause flooding, despite the float level being properly set. (Been there, done that - most recently this past Sunday...)
