We have a "48 A (one of a few Deeres) and a "54 Super M (one of a few IHs.) I would be hard pressed to pick a favorite of the two. I guess it would be specific to what I was doing: Plowing I much prefer the A as that seat is worlds more comfy for watchin where ya been. Backin" anything the M gets it hands down as the reverse speed isn"t wayyyyyyyy too fast and the foot clutch wins there. Same with loader work but that is a lil unfair as the SM has live hydraulics and the A doesnt. Pulling is a toss up as the A is about the only Deere we have that is competitive in a truly stock configuration.) As far as mechanicals, the SM has the discs, so the Deere brakes win out. Changin a muffler or a radiator certainly goes to the IH, but when it"s time for clutch work the IH is bummin"! Around here the Hs and Ms bring about the same money as As and Bs when the money actually changes hands (people always figure they have a gold mine when they are sellin" Green so it takes a while of no interest for them to get real!) I do know that as a rule IH folks are alot less critical and not as snobbish or hoity toity! I enjoy IH shows more for this reason, and because there are more products to see: trucks, Scouts... Overall if pressed to pick two keepers out of our whole fleet which includes several colors and models, it would be neither the A or the M; I would opt for the Super C and the JD 70. But I sure would miss that Super H, and the Ns, and the B...oh yeah the 420 and the D10...haha
