Part of me wants to say, "Huh?!?!?" The rest of me makes me ask whether we are thinking of the same thing. And what the safety considerations are.
If you're talking about the pulley at the front end of the crankshaft, the one that drives the fan, no.
The bearing can never go. It takes part of the load of the piston rods turning the crank. Without it, you'll have a big mess in a hurry.
As far as finding another way to do it that saves the bearing but eliminates the pulley, no. You need that fan. An unmodified C would not have had a water pump. It was a thermosiphon system, that relied on the fan (driven by the crank pulley) to draw air across it in sufficient quantity to cool the engine. Without the crank pulley, how would you drive the fan?
Without a fan, you'd still be only capable of short runs even with a water pump, which would require a belt to drive it.
And I haven't even started on how you would drive the generator, assuming you want one.
