Robert - It's possible the switch has gone bad like you suggest. More likely however the regulator inside the alternator is not right. Way to test: 1 - Begin with all wiring in place, the warning lamp installed and the battery connected. With the ignition switch off is the warning light lit? If so... 2 - Disconnect the wire between the ammeter and the ignition switch. If the light goes out, the switch is bad. If the light stays lit.... 3 - Disconnect the wire from the #1 terminal on the alternator. If the light goes out now, there's a fault in the regulator. If the light STILL it lit, there's a wiring error (or possibly your tractor has demons!) You could also do this: Remove the alternator and it to your friendly NAPA, Autozone, etc, or to a reputable alternator shop. They will test the alternator/regulator for proper function. (And the test won't cost you anything...) Good luck and let me know what you find! Bob M
