When you have the engine removed that would be an ideal time to remove all the crud thats in the bottom of the block. Remove the radiator so you can take off the lower outlet then you will be able to clean that area. There are a coulpe of holes where the coolant flows down by the sleeve and you by using compressed air and a probe get that area clean. You will find a lot of junk in there unless the engine has had new sleeves and pistons.
