Well when i bought my 52 it had factory rims with 16.9 x 38s on them and it appeared fine .
Meaning it didn't look wrong or buldging side walls. I was talking with the owner of Carleton Farm Supply and he told me that I.H found that the 16.9 x 38s worked better and they installed them as a factory replacement .
I'm not going to get into a debate over it, this what i was told !!!
To be honest with you i wouldn't want a smaller tire , there is plenty of power to handle them.
I have sence put them on stamped 18" wide rims and pull with it.
