Hytran fluid (or equal specification fluid like JD hydraulic transmission fluid.) The level is not critical, but checking with it loose puts a little more fluid into the system, no issue to performance. That is the screen, no other. If it is partially plugged it will restrict flow, and cause issues. Original reprint manuals, or new from IH are great. Service manuals and owners are nice to have. IT brand manuals often give a different point of view and are OK. Many can be ordered here (top left) Jim (350U owner)
