Was trying to cut hay yesterday, PTO powered mower on 2pt/3pt hitch. Was tough going because of damp thick grass and undergrowth. Had throttle set higher than usual.
Engine suddenly stopped, and I couldn"t get it to turn over with starter. Dragged it home, and removed governor and pan. Everything looks OK underneath, and thru the governor opening. BUT, the pulley on the front of the engine looks like it is tipped upward, fanbelt is loose. I cannot get hand crank to line up with front of pulley. Was able to turn engine a few degrees by pushing on bottom of one of the connecting rods, but no more movement.
Is it likely that I broke the crank at the front of the engine? This engine has destroyed two timing gears in the past. Last time - a hundred or so hours ago, I replaced all the gears on the front of the engine.
